A mysterious push-notification "Test for Ricardo" on my smartphone. What the hell it is? Is it dangerous? I checked.

At midnight today (2023/8/25), I received a mysterious notification on my Motorola smartphone . It seems that not only me, but many people using Motorola smartphones around the world have received the same notification .

Is it  a virus? Any fraud and dangerous? I was worried, so I did some research.

(Here is Japanese ver of this article)

Here is the notification I received.

As a result of the investigation, the conclusion is that it is not a virus or a scam, and you can ignore it.

In response to a question from users who received this message, a Motorola representative provided the following response on August 26, 2023.

Question

I was on my phone a few minutes ago and I get a notification for the Motorola device help app that just says "test for Ricardo" I clicked it and it just brought me to the app. Does anyone know what it might have been about?

Answer

We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. We can confirm that this message was meant for internal testing only. There are no actions needed for you to do and there is no impact to your device. We are taking steps to prevent recurrence in the future.

In short, it is presumed that Motorola 's test message was delivered to all users by mistake. It's not a scam, so don't worry.

(Please don't disturb us....)

By the way, when I clicked on the delivered notification message "Test for Ricardo", when I checked what would happen, what I saw was just a "Device Help" screen .
